The paternity test (DNA testing) represents the precise method of determining the degree of kinship. Besides the medical applications, the maternity test can be a very delicate problem for the people involved, often betraying the mistrust in the partner.
There are several variants of the paternity test, depending on when you want to do it:
Postnatal DNA testing (after the birth of the child) consists of:
Collection of blood samples and examination of blood groups of parents and children. The blood of the mother is not necessarily necessary. After analyzing the blood, the genetic profile of the child is compared with the presumed or presumed father of the child.
If the genetic profiles of the child and one of the potential fathers prove to be similar, then the paternity is 100% confirmed.
The DNA test can also be done by analyzing the cells harvested from the inside of the cheek. The same test can also be performed by collecting and testing the umbilical cord of the child.
Other types of biological samples (sperm, tissue, hair) can also be used to perform a DNA test. The DNA test for blood samples, by the new analysis techniques has an accuracy of almost 100%.
Prenatal DNA testing (before the baby is born):
This test can be done from the second trimester of pregnancy, starting from week 14 to week 20. The procedure may present (low) risks of cramps, leakage of amniotic fluid, vaginal bleeding, which may injure the fetus or may it even causes an abortion.
How is it achieved? The doctor introduces a fine needle into the uterus, through the abdomen. The needle collects a small percentage of amniotic fluid which is then studied and tested. It is advisable to consult your doctor for approval for this type of test.
Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)
This test is performed by the specialist doctor introducing a fine needle or tube into the mother's vagina, through the cervix, using ultrasound to obtain chorionic villi (small pieces of tissue trapped by the wall of the uterus).
This type of test can be done in the early stages of pregnancy (starting with weeks 10-13). Also, you need the approval of the doctor to perform this type of test and to inform you about the possible risks.
The paternity test in us in the country can be performed in several private medical clinics, with prices ranging from 200 to 700 euros, depending on the number of test participants, the number of DNA regions analyzed (from 16 to 16). 27) etc.
The paternity test can have serious emotional implications especially if the result is not the expected one. This must be considered before conducting the test, as well as the consequences that the test results will have to be analyzed.
